Rep was going to lower my ATT bill by giving me Uverse. Everything sounded legit despite the heavy accent, until he got to the end of the phone call where he needed my SSN. I was going to save about $100 per month for internet, phone and TV. Since I already have ATT, they should not have needed my SSN or any other such info. Supposedly needed to run a "soft" credit check. I've been paying ATT more than $400 per month for years and years for many services; pay on time, etc., so they sure don't need any more info to check up on me. Interesting that he was setting up an appt to get me the new "cable" and I wonder what would've happened next after I gave him my SSN. Of course I didn't and we ended the call. He went by "Ben Smith" and I told him I was sure that was not his name, but that was fine. He even gave me his phone EX, in case there were issues later. Be careful out there -- who doesn't want to save $100 per month on their cable/internet/home phone? Like me, stop when he starts asking the wrong questions as in SSN!
